A better tube

Two alternatives to the traditional London Tube map, one closer to geographically acurate and one with distortion grid in the background.  Spotted on Boing Boing.

Comments:
The lower one is out-of-date - the circle line is not circle anymore but is reverted 6 with line from Edgware Road to Hammersmith.

They had a whole exhibition of these "improvements" at Dagstuhl in January.

They're not really improvements IMO, the classic map has its design as a symbolic representation of the tube system to avoid any confusion with geography, and make the map more easy to read and more compact.

The "geographically accurate" redesigns of the map are fun to look at but they'll end up turning into a horrendous series of squiggles - as seen on the NYC subway map
